The MICE sector in Hangzhou has taken a leading position among China's second tier cities over recent years. A Chinese observation says that the key to good policy is to first develop the right talent. Hangzhou, despite its second tier status, has so far proven to be the exception to the rule. The instruction and advice has helped the practitioners upgrade their skill sets in a move to adapt to market changes. As part of this initiative, the city government set up the Hangzhou International Meeting Bidding Service Center in June this year. The organization will, in collaboration with local companies, organizations and convention ambassadors, provide bidding services for international association conferences and other meetings. The establishment of the center is expected to strongly boost Hangzhou's MICE sector in its ability to win more conference bids, especially bids for international events.

Hangzhou has been actively expanding its market channels. The main components of the promotions scheduled for the second half of this year include the just-concluded "Hangzhou,Inspiring New Connections" event. The event brought together PCOs (professional conference organizers) internationally, giving them an opportunity to experience the full array of Hangzhou's rich MICE resources. This was achieved through a combination of interactive experiences and visits to sites that would bring event attendees in contact with Hangzhou's unique local features, among them, the China National Silk Museum, cruises on West Lake, tea-picking in Longjing Village and yacht racing. Hangzhou Tourism Commission, for the first time, ran an "overseas" event in parallel in Paris, France, at which they set up at various high-traffic locations within the city, the Hangzhou Reception Room and the Hangzhou Mobile Conference Room, two pop-up venues that were able to give European-based conference organizers a chance to experience the Chinese city without needing to make the several-thousand-kilometer journeys. Paris was chosen for this simultaneous event as the city and consistently holds the ranking as the number one MICE destination according to the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA). Several events were conducted that allowed attendees in Hangzhou to communicate and interact with their counterparts in Paris. At the end of the event, a banquet and sharing session was held at Hangzhou International Expo Center, the main venue of the G20 summit. At the meeting, conference organizers from several countries had in-depth exchanges with executives from local companies in Hangzhou. Many of the organizers expressed their intent to choose Hangzhou as the venue for one of their future events.

Guangdong Coastal Areas Top Tourist Choices during Summer Vacation Season

GUANGZHOU, China, Sept. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Guangdong province received 8.33 million tourists during the summer holiday of 2017 (July 1 - Aug. 31), increasing by 54% compared to last year's figures, according to a research report on summer holiday tourism jointly released by Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province and Tongcheng (LY.COM, an online travel agency). Coastal tourism, which is the most popular with tourists, tops the list.

During the period, fourteen coastal cities in Guangdong province received 7.34 million tourists with a year-on-year growth of 55%, accounting for 88% of the total tourists to Guangdong. Guangzhou and Shenzhen hit the highest number with 40% and 25% respectively, while Zhanjiang, Maoming and Dongguan recorded the strongest increases of 95%, 85% and 71% respectively.

Hailing Island in Yangjiang city has always been one of the most popular coastal destinations for tourists planning for their summer vacation. According to official figures released by Hailing Island Economic Development Pilot Zone, Hailing, in July and August, attracted 3.52 million visitors and brought about 2.4 billion yuan of tourist income, increasing year-on-year by 8.9% and 8% respectively. Also, it saw a huge rise in the number of visitors from northern regions and other provinces including Hunan and Guangxi as well as a remarkable growth in group travels.

It is said that besides regular attractions, Dajiao Bay in Hailing Island has introduced various programs, such as coastal music and dance performances, parade floats, symphonies, a water-splashing festival, a beer festival and a VR experience center. The new efforts applauded by tourists brought in 30% more visitors than last year. The Bay attracted increasingly more tourists from outside Guangdong and China, which are made up mainly of family tours.

Also, Nanhai One (South China Sea No. 1) reopened to the public in August after a half year of upgrading. It is a wooden vessel for transporting goods and trading with foreign countries along the Maritime Silk Road, which sank in the beginning of the Southern Song Dynasty. The wreck was exhibited for the first time in 2007 in the Maritime Silk Road Museum of Guangdong. This year, the Museum attracts tourists to coastal areas with the improvement of the tour route (extended from 800 meters to 1500 meters) and more exhibits (added from 416 pieces to over 2000 pieces). It includes dozens of valuable items from Nanhai One, among which are exotic gold ornaments, elegant chinaware and very rare lacquerware from the Song Dynasty.

Tourists preferred destinations with themes. Among the tourists who came to Guangdong during summer vacation season in 2017, 51% of them chose aquariums, hot springs, the water world, historical sites, rafting and flower viewing.

Singapore was the most popular overseas trip destination. For overseas travel, 55% of Guangdong residents chose Singapore, Vietnam and Japan as their destinations. The choices of Germany and Belgium witnessed rapid growth.

Air China Limited Announces 2018 First Quarter Results: Improving Development Quality to Achieve Significant Growth in Profit

BEIJING, April 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Air China Limited ("Air China" or the "Company," together with its subsidiaries, collectively the " Group") (HKEX: 00753; LSE: AIRC; SSE: 601111; ADR OTC: AIRYY), today announced its first quarter results of 2018 (the "Period").

Results Highlights

  • Total profit increased 66.31% year-on-year to RMB4.024 billion
  • Operating income increased 9.11% year-on-year to RMB31.607 billion
  • Total operating cost increased 6.71% year-on-year to RMB 28.230 billion

Operation and Business Highlights

In the first quarter of 2018, the Chinese economy developed steadily. As residents' demand for travel was strong, air passenger traffic maintained steady growth while demand in the cargo market continued to improve. During the Period, the Group recorded operating income of RMB31.607 billion, an increase of 9.11% over the same period of last year. Total operating cost was RMB 28.230 billion, an increase of 6.71% over the same period of last year. Total profit was RMB4.024 billion, an increase of 66.31% over the same period of last year, and net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was RMB2.628 billion, an increase of 79.23% over the same period of last year.

During the Period, the Group's passenger capacity, measured by Available Seat Kilometers (ASK) increased by 10.96% year on year to 65.758 billion. The passenger traffic, measured by Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK) was 53.350 billion, an increase of 9.75% year on year. Among which, RPK of domestic routes, international routes and regional routes amounted to 32.596 billion, 18.849 billion, and 1.905 billion, up 7.44%,13.65% and 12.92% year on year, respectively. The passenger load factor was 81.13%, a slight decrease of 0.90 percentage points year on year, of which, the passenger load factor of domestic, international and regional routes were 83.02%, 78.28% and 78.90% respectively.

In terms of air cargo, the Available Freight Tonne Kilometers (AFTK) amounted to 3.518 billion, up 9.81% year on year, while the Revenue Freight Tonne Kilometers (RFTK) amounted to 1.803 billion, up 10.90% year on year. The cargo and mail load factor was 51.26%, up 0.51 percentage points year on year.

Benefitting from the continued development of the global aviation industry, steady growth of China's macro economy, and the influence of a series of policies favourable to the industry, we expect the Company will have larger room for development this year. A new choice for travelers to China

("Hainan Airlines") announced the launch of nonstop service between Tel Aviv and Guangzhou scheduled to start on August 2, 2018. The route will be serviced by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner three flights a week. Following the rollout of Tel Aviv-Beijing and Tel Aviv-Shanghai services, this is Hainan Airlines' third direct flight between Tel Aviv and China. Following the flight from Tel Aviv to Beijing and the flight from Tel Aviv to Shanghai, this is Hainan Airlines' third direct flight between Tel Aviv and China. Directed by INVNT's Paul Blurton and with an ensemble of 43 performers, the production dramatised the adventures of two young lovers named Mimo and Walker who were swept into the ocean, rescued by magical sea creatures, and taken to the underwater city of Atlantis. Renowned theatre artist Prinnie Stevens played the lead role of Queen Atlantia, the lost city's ruler, who blesses the couple and sends them off with her message of love, peace, and unity. Twenty drummers dressed as Atlantian courtiers heralded the arrival of Atlantis to Sanya, symbolising the resort's main theme.

As the performance came to a close, a ribbon-cutting ceremony signaled the start of the spectacular fireworks display.
